SuperGay Middlesbrough Pride is a huge annual event in Middlesbrough celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender life in the region.
Think Pink have been integral as facilitators of the event since its inception 4 years ago. Director, Simon Hatfield is currently Chair of the organisation alongside the role of marketing the festival and organising the main day ‘party in the park’ event.
SuperGay 2010, despite an economic downturn sees an increase in revenue, and in return a larger investment in the festival itself, likely to attract over 6000 people to the town over 10 days in September.
The 2009 festival, which included a theatre performance of Beautiful Thing, a Transgender Cabaret Evening and a parade through the town attracted over 4,500 people into Middlesbrough Town Centre. Simon has also played a huge part in raising over £28,000 towards the costs of the festival.
The 2009 festival also received a huge amount of press coverage, with the Evening Gazette reporting on many of the events including saturdays ‘party in the park’ which saw Booty Luv and the Dreambears (from Britain’s Got Talent) performing on stage. There was also coverage of the event in print - DIVA Magazine, The Crack, Out North East and the Northern Echo and on television and radio - BBC Tees, Look North and by Media Partners TFM and Magic 1170.
